Grow in small hanging pots which can be hung in

Trees.  Early morning sun.  Medium coarse orchid bark.  Very little water in winter.  They flower in Spring on old canes.

NATIVE DENDROBIUMS

Grow in small hanging pots or on hardwood slabs.  They need filtered  light where flowers can open in the sun with foliage in the shade.  Flowers come  mostly in spring.  Plenty of water in Summer, drier in Winter.

ZYGOPETALUMS

Grow in medium bark with peanut shells or leaf mulch added in large pots to accommodate roots.  Full morning sun.  Water well in summer and drier in Winter. 

Can flower most times of the year but mostly in winter.  Needs good light but very little direct sun

CYMBIDIUMS

Grow in medium bark with peanut shells or leaf mulch added in large pots to accommodate roots.  Full morning sun.  Water well in summer and drier in Winter.  Flower spikes are initiated during Jan/Feb with cool nights so give plenty of air movement. Flowers appear in spring.

CATTLEYAS

Hanging pots just large enough to accommodate root system.  Medium to large bark.  Good filtered light.  Flowers either in spring or autumn.  Water well in summer, drier in winter. 

VANDAS

Large pots to accommodate large root system.  Full morning sun and constant watering in Summer, drier in Winter.  If medium is used, must be large pieces of cork or bark as their roots are adventurous.

They can flower all during the year.

PHALAENOPSIS

Sphagnum moss on bark or cork which is allowed to dry out between watering in shallow pots.  No direct sun but good light.  Constant water in summer a little drier in winter and protect from cold.  Ensure water does not collect in centre of plant.
